May 14- Macchu Picchu back to Cusco; Ollantaytambo
Our bus back to Cusco stopped for a hike at Ollayantaytambo, also part of the Sacred Valley. (See map below.) I’ll miss this place but I’ll always remember the mountains. There was a slightly cheesy presentation by a couple of actors in traditional dress on the train to and from Macchu Picchu- a pantomime with a recorded narrative in poetry recounting Inca legends. Good parents don’t let their kids major in the performing arts.
| Those small boxes halfway up the mountain were for storage. |
| Some of those climbs were very long. |
Impressive site- the elevation gain was a measly 183 feet. It felt like more.
Mother's Day was coming up- lots of vendors in the town selling cakes, balloons (emblazoned with “Te Amo”), flowers and baskets loaded with treats (cookies, chips) wrapped in cellophane.
