The Trip Home and Stuff You Don't Put on FaceBook
After that last spectacular day of hiking and snorkeling, I woke up in the middle of the night feeling awful. We'd all had dinner on the ship and had all had tuna- but my system disagreed with it. Violently. I worried, of course. We were leaving for the airport in the morning, headed to Quito and then a 1 AM flight to Houston with a connection in Houston.
Fortunately, the symptoms gradually stopped. Most of what I remember from the trip was sleeping at every opportunity (thank heaven for airline lounges) and living on water and yogurt for 2 days.
Schedule (approximately):
11:30 AM- Depart Baltra (Galapagos)
4:15 PM- Arrive Quito
12:40 AM- Depart Quito. Fortunately the tour company booked day rooms for us till 9 PM. I had to bypass 95% of the lovely food at the dinner buffet and in the airline lounge but I took full advantage of the nap room in the airline lounge, carefully setting my phone alarm. Flight left an hour late anyway.
5:40 AM- Arrive Houston. I slept through dinner but "breakfast" was a nasty over-sweetened plastic-wrapped muffin and juice or water. No coffee- not that I would have risked drinking it. Pitiful. I took another nap in the airline lounge.
1:00 PM- Depart Houston
2:30 PM- Arrive in Kansas City
Still- what a trip! I'm grateful I was finally able to finish it 3 years late.
